Thank You Salt Lake. 2011 SLC tattoo convention started off 2011 with a bang!

I was real skeptical about doing this convention. I never really heard anything about it, maybe because its not in my area, but it surprised me. Brought some of the crew out there and had to rep for the Pacific Island Community. We also had some Killer Mexican Food, Red Iguanas, it was pretty good...funny taxi rides, and beer that was just a thirst quencher, no buzz of that beer. I had heard about the beer in Utah but we had to try it...Yup, no buzz off a six or 12 pack? oh well, we then shot over to the bar downstairs and had some shots...Off to the next convention, ill keep you posted...

We at Cukui and Humble Beginnings always push forward the core values of community and friendship in all we do. For this month’s art gallery we are making this a special night to help out a friend and talented tattoo artist, Steve Looney. Having been diagnosed with liver disease five years ago Steve has been fighting this hindrance every step of the way, not allowing it to stop him from living a full life. Just last year his liver started to fail and Steve had to undergo a liver transplant on August 30th 2009. Though Steve’s life was spared he and his family are still dealing with the financial issues that come with such operations. Cukui, Humble Beginnings Tattoo, and Steve’s friends have all pulled their talents to showcase art for his cause. Steve will also be in attendance so you will be able to hear his story first hand. 80% of the proceeds from the artwork sold from this show will go to Steve. Lets be generous!

So come on out and bring your friends and family for a night of culture, community, and great people. And also come out and enjoy all the other art showcases going around the area. Japantown is poppin’.

Almost home, tattooing here at Borneo ink, in Kuala Lumpar Malaysia. Thanks Eddie, Simon, and Lina for the work. I will be home in 6 days. These 10 weeks have been a really great growing experience. Meeting Tribes from Thailand, Longnecks to Mien. Seeing Ankor Wat , riding elephants and seeing monkeys just chillen like stray dogs. Seeing asia and seeing the craziness and the beauty. Vietnamese Pho', Thai ice tea...Meeting and staying in the Iban Lemank Longhouse...Iban Warriors tattooed from head to toe. Skulls of Humans and Monkeys in a rattan basket hanging from the ceiling. Its been a crazy trip and I seen so much, it seemed like a blur, and now reality is setting in again, back to work...time to share with you all what i learned, see you all soon. Had fun here in the PI, it was heart warming and a breathe of fresh smog, lol. I think my lungs are filled

with the gases here. Visiting friends and family was the most important to me. Seeing my homeland and seeingmy people survive,hustle, nad make the best of what little they have. I seen Hundred Islands, Sabong, Cock fighting, the carabaos my family owns and the land that they own that is filled with endless amounts of rice, mangos, and coconuts. My dads oldhouse that he grew up in and chilled with my papa carding. Fishing with an electric pole, for reals, lol and drinking with the elders, and my cousins. It was all worth it, to come home and be thankful.

Suluape Aisea Toetu'u, When I first was learning polynesian, south pacific, tribal and its meanings, the foundations, the life blood that holds it together...I was at the right side of Aisea. In New Tribal, a tattoo shop in Waikiki, with Pooino Yrondi the owner known for tattoo Dwayne Johson the Rock, Lucky Olelo, Rustin, and later on Mike Ledger. Learning the essense of what I tattoo to this day.
